Juan Cuenca

Born in Puente Genil, Córdoba (Spain), 1934. Co-founder  and member of Equipo 57. Other founders are Ángel Duarte,  José Duarte, Agustín Ibarrola, Juan Serrano, Jorge Oteiza.

In 1957 the group makes public, through a manifesto, their artistic purposes: the denunciation of production and market mechanisms, the desire to renew the current artistic situation and the search for a social function to art and the integration of the artist in society.
After its dissolution in 1961, he continued his career as an architect. He has undertaken numerous projects for the restoration and consolidation of Cordoba’s monumental heritage, such as the Plaza de la Corredera square and the archaeological site of Medina Azahara.

In 2014, Juan Cuenca‘s solo show was exhibited in Freijo Gallery, titled  tension/shape.
In 2016, presents the retrospective exhibition of Juan Cuenca, Del plano al espacio. Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño en Juan Cuenca. Sala Vimcorsa (Córdoba, Spain). Curator: Angustias Freijo Mouliaa.
