Marcelo Brodsky

Artist and human rights activist, Marcelo Brodsky had to go into exile from Argentina in Barcelona (Spain) as a result of the military coup of 1976. There he studied economics at the University of Barcelona and photography at the International Centre of Photography. His teacher was the Catalan photographer Manel Esclusa. Situated on the borderline between installation, performance, photography, monument and memorial, his works combine text and image.
His projects, such as Buena Memoria, have been exhibited more than 250 times individually or in groups, in whole or in part, in public spaces and institutions all over the world. Or like Nexo, exhibited at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in 2001, at the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende in Chile and elsewhere. Also, Correspondencias Visuales, a project made up of visual dialogues with other artists such as Martin Parr, Manel Esclusa or Pablo Ortiz Monasterio was exhibited in Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico. O La Consulta del Dr Allende, made with Arturo Duclós, was exhibited at the Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos in Santiago de Chile.
He published his fotonovela Once @9:53, produced with Ilan Stavans, which combines reportage and fiction. In 2014 he published Tiempo de Árbol, a visual essay that addresses the relationship with nature as a means of healing.
In 2013, he produced I pray with my feet, a work dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Marshall Meyer, which draws a direct line between the Civil Rights movement in the United States and the Human Rights movement in Argentina through the close relationship between Rev. Luther King and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, Meyer's mentor.
Marcelo Brodsky is a member of Asociación Buena Memoria, a human rights organisation, and of the Board of Management of the Parque de la Memoria, next to the Rio de la Plata, in homage to the victims of state terrorism. In 2008 he received the Human Rights Award from Bnai Brith Argentina. In 2014 he received the Jean Mayer Award from Tufts University Global Leadership Institute. In 2014 she founded Visual Action/ Acción Visual, an organisation dedicated to incorporating visual culture into human rights campaigns and working on visual education: www.visualaction.org. In 2015, she curated "Visual Action - Ayotzinapa", an international photography exhibition in solidarity with Ayotzinapa", which is permanently exhibited at the Escuela Normal Rural Raúl Isidro Burgos, Ayotzinapa in Tixtla, Guerrero, and was temporarily exhibited at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, Mexico, at the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina and in an exhibition in the public space organised by the Centro de Fotografía de la ciudad de Montevideo, Uruguay.
In 2017, a solo exhibition of a project on 1968 was presented at the Museo de Tlatelololco, Mexico City. The publishing house RM published a photobook of this project.
