The Notational Shift
José Iges
from February 7, 2020 to February 21, 2020
On February 7th, the LZ46 space of Freijo Gallery will host the presentation of the book The Notational Shift, by José Iges and Manuel Olveira, who aim through this publication to explain and develop an idea that led to an exhibition with the same name at MUSAC in León, which both of them curated. This project analyzed and showed the use and strategies followed by notational systems applied since the 1960s by artists from different disciplines.
This presentation will be given by the two authors and curators of the project, José Iges and Manuel Olveira, the current director of MUSAC, as well as by Fernando Castro Flórez, director of the Infraleves Collection, edited with CENDEAC, which shaped this publication.
Alongside this presentation, we will show the work by the artist José Iges (Spain, 1951) called Dylan in Between, in a new formulation that he proposes as an installation with the subtitle The Message of the Medium. In this work, Iges, in line with some of the proposals of The Notational Shift, creates a certain stylized notation and an image of thought based on the original sound work.
