Concha Jerez, José Iges y Ramón Mateos on today's ABC Cultural

April 5, 2025

ABC Cultural offers a special edition in which writers, artists and intellectuals analyse and illuminate the complicated present and uncertain future of Europe. Among them feature works by our artists Concha Jerez & José Iges and Ramón Mateos.

Currently part of the exhibition “Resignifications” at the CGAC in Santiago de Compostela, the work of the Iges & Jerez tandem “Bazaar of Broken Utopias” presents a gala dinner for European leaders in which the glasses and plates are shown filled with broken glass with self-censored writings alluding to the Kristalnacht of 1938 and a series of elements that refer to key moments in the construction of Europe. Mateos' work, ‘Tapestry 2024’, currently on show at Galería Freijo, addresses the Mediterranean migration crisis in 2024. As the artist explains, the work highlights the contradictions of a system that generates massive displacements while investing billions in containing them.
