September 19, 2023
From the 21st of September 2023 to the 14th of January 2024 you can listen to La Ciudad de Agua (1994) by Concha Jerez and José Iges as part of the Paisajes Sonoros cycle at the Fundación Díaz-Caneja in Palencia.
La Ciudad de Agua, initially conceived for radio, is based on the recording of sounds produced in the space of the Alhambra in Granada, as a resonant place with the sound of water and human voices, but also as a loudspeaker for the implicit texts of the epigraphic poems that cover the walls of the Alhambra: a "false sonorous archaeology" - in Iges' own words - that mixes the mute voices of the poems with the living voices of the guides and tourists, generating a 12-part sound mosaic from a polyhedral image of the Nasrid palace.
The piece was originally co-produced by the CDMC - Caja General de Ahorros de Granada "La General" and released in 1994 on the Hyades Arts label on the CD "Rios Invisibles".
