Maribel Domènech at the MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo
February 28, 2025
Maribel Domènech takes part in the exhibition "Érguete. La huella de las madres. Un grito que cambió la sociedad" at MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo, curated by Violeta Janeiro and Mariña Carrasco Rivas.
The year 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the Érguete Association, which was born in 1985 on the initiative of a group of mothers united by a common bond: the drug addiction of one of their children. They took to the streets, trained themselves, pointed the finger at drug dealers, won rights for people with addiction problems and opened the way for a society that, little by little, began to act against the problem. Key figures in recent history, their struggle marked a before and an after.
Today, four decades later, an exhibition aims to remember these mothers and show the importance of their mark in Vigo, in Galicia and throughout Spain. Along with a selection of graphic materials, objects and documentation from the archive and newspaper library of the Érguete Association, the exhibition includes works by contemporary artists who give shape to a political and social context from a diversity of languages and media.
