Site-specific intervention by Ramón Mateos at the Cervantes Institute of Berlin

June 21, 2022

Within the framework of the 8th Spanish-German Cultural Encounter, the artists Ramón Mateos, on the Spanish side, and Christian Jankowski, on the German side, have been invited to intervene in different spaces of the Cervantes Institute of Berlin. Both artists are known for their creative works with a strong commitment to different social and human contexts worldwide. Both artists will participate on the occasion of this meeting entitled "Simplicity that traps" where they will reflect on populism and its impact on European democracies, in order to motivate viewers to reflect and position themselves in an ambiguous and confusing world. This meeting will take place on Thursday, June 23rd from 9 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

The proposals of Ramón Mateos (1968, Madrid) and Christian Jankowski (1968, Göttingen) are very different and complementary; the former approaches an analysis with facts and figures on the welfare state and migratory movements, while the latter uses a more conceptual and metaphorical language to denounce situations of moral and social precariousness.
