TODAY LAST DAY OF "SONIC DETOURS" THE CYCLE CURATED BY JOSÉ IGES AT CINETECA MATADERO
February 29, 2024
Today, Thursday 29 February, at 7 p.m., at the Cineteca de Matadero (Madrid), the closing session of the cycle "Sonic Detours: Encounters with José Iges" will take place under the title "Resignifying".
Many authors have looked to the last century and even further back in order, through an exercise of appropriationism of specific works - with which we were linked by a certainly sentimental bond, which brings us back to what we pointed out in our first session - to re-signify them in the present. From rock to the most illustrious origins of phonetic poetry, passing through popular airs such as the rumba, the mambo or the pasodoble, almost nothing has remained immune to the affectionately predatory interest of sound artists. Some have even appropriated everyday objects, from household appliances to doorbells, to place them in an artistic context, which in some cases has given new life to waste, with all that is ecological about it. And in the end, appropriating something can also be understood as a certain form of cannibalism.
